This year – not to mention the summer months – are flying by: less than three months remain in 2016. Board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Anthony J. Geroulis has outlined a number of predictions about the way he feels the year will turn out. An industry veteran with more than thirty years of experience, Dr. Geroulis has seen it all in the world of cosmetic surgery. In the article below, Dr. Geroulis has outlined two trends, which he believes will be prevalent throughout the remainder of the 2016.
,Dr. Geroulis predicts an increase in the number of lower eyelid surgeries, also sometimes referred to as lower blepharoplasty procedures, in the remainder of 2016. He feels that there will be a particular increase for adults under the age of 40. While that age group might sound young, many men and women are undergoing lower eyelid surgery as young as 35, and Dr. Geroulis believes this will only continue to become a larger trend. There are many contributing societal trends, such as men and women marrying later, which may have led to this increase. According to a 2015 study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, eyelid surgery is in the top 5 most popular cosmetic surgical procedures, with more than 200,000 performed nationally that year. Dr. Geroulis performs dozens of lower eyelid surgeries each year and actually pioneered a revolutionary technique called the “transconjunctival approach.” This technique, expertly employed by Dr. Geroulis during a lower eyelid procedure, involves removing the fat pockets from the puffy lower eyelid bags with a single incision. It’s revolutionary because it leaves no visible scar.
,Another trend that Dr. Geroulis has noticed over the last several years is the increase in the number of dermal injections, such as Botox, Juvederm and Restylane. Each dermal injection, all of which are performed by Dr. Geroulis himself, is designed to target a different section of the face depending on the problem at hand. The lower cost point and short recovery time have made dermal injections increasingly popular at Dr. Geroulis’ Northfield-based practice. While there are downsides to dermal injections, such as the fact that the results don’t last nearly as long as surgery, many men and women are seeking them out for temporary, fantastic results. According to that same 2015 study, Botox is in the top 5 cosmetic minimally invasive procedures performed, with more than 6.7 million performed that year.
